MACHINE ENVY: Jan 11th - Mar 20th 2010
MACHINE ENVY an exhibition by Pogus Caesar, featuring 24 photographs taken at MOTOR SHOW LIVE 2004, NEC, Birmingham, United Kingdom.
With well over 400 new cars and in excess of 600, 000 visitors attending one of Britain's most prestigious events in the annual calender - MACHINE ENVY lifts the lid and exposes those intimate moments when humans and motor cars meet halfway. How our behaviour changes when we are exposed to and manipulated by some of the most beautiful and desirable cars in the world.
Every year billions of pounds are spent introducing and seducing us to the new mechanical supermodels, with only one aim - to win the hearts, minds and pockets of our consumer led world. The choice is unending, terms such as 'top of the range, throughbred, hatchback and 4 x 4' are banded about with such ease it makes the expense and guilt less difficult to cope with.
Caesar's garish colour images unashamedly examine the relationship and secret desires that occur when we enter this expensive candy store. How the hypnotic lure of metal, rubber, chrome and leather plays upon the subconscious - creating a heady aroma of lust and envy for a piece of metal most of us will never own.
Concentrating on only a small number of cars Caesar photographed MACHINE ENVY in one day. He say's "I was struck by how seductive and dreamlike the atmosphere became, slowly you visualise owning exotic cars, you pick up conversations....2.8, V6 and it's only £123, 000 roll off the tongue with delicious ease"...THE TRAP IS SET!
Enter the fantasy world of MACHINE ENVY, where reality is suspended and the car is king.
Canon and Nikon 35mm Cameras were used for the project.
